OUT & AROUND

Neapolis is the part which connects Exarchia with Kolonaki. Neither anarchic nor classy.

Perhaps the most genuine urban part of town.

As years go by, the borders between Neapolis and Exarchia were lost. The neighborhood is full of restaurants, music bars and open-air movie theaters, it is considered to be the Athens "Quartier Latin". Architecture with identity, high culture, and the haunt of the book.

NEAPOLIS - EXARCHIA

Neapolis is not a simple area of Athens. It is an area with special charm and bohemian character.

As part of Exarchia, the area is home to many students, intellectuals, and artists, yet it is also a neighborhood inhabited by families.

Take a walk in the pedestrian zone of Themistocleous, Valetsiou, Methonis and Eresou Streets, and rest in a cafe, bar or a traditional Greek taverna. Some of the best Athenian tavernas are located here, as well as artistic hangouts, theaters and open air cinemas, which are a strong part of the local cultural entertainment.

Walking around, you can see many neoclassical buildings, some abandoned, some neglected, covered by street art and graffiti at almost every wall.
The National Archeological Museum, many bookshops, quirky stores, the National Technical University, alternative bars, and underground music venues are located here.

On Saturdays, you can see young punks together with elderly urbans, shopping fresh fruits and vegetables, at the traditional open farmers market at Kallidromiou Street.

LYCABETTUS HILL - KOLONAKI

On the other side, Neapolis leads to the foothills of Lycabettus, and Kolonaki.

Located in the center of Athens and rising to a height of 910 feet, Lycabettus Hill can be seen from virtually every corner of Athens. Its views from the top encompass the city, the surrounding mountains, and the Athens coast.

You can reach the top by car, by foot (you must be prepared to sweat), or by taking the cable car. No matter how you decide to get there, it is very much worth it in the end. From there you have the best view of Athens! There is also a café and a restaurant on top of the hill, making it the perfect spot for a romantic evening meal.

One of the more upscale neighborhoods of the city, the most aristocratic area of the center of Athens, is Kolonaki.

Some of the best bistros, cafes, restaurants, and bars of the city are here, well-known boutiques of world-class designers, with admittedly high prices, and apartments of old bourgeoisie families. Here you can find also, some very interesting museums and cultural institutions.
